Windows to the future
We don’t stop thinking about it: when we discovered that something as basic as windows and doors are the most important for a school, we don’t stop to do things until we see that dream comes true.
Tatu Lenara, Ngongongare Primary School’s headmistress, told us that what they most needed were those windows and doors. The ones they had were very small and broken and the cold passes inside the classrooms in the rainy season.
Our adventure with Ngongorare Primary School started like this. A school that hadn’t received any help since its construction more than 50 years ago. It is located in a wonderful place, surrounded by greenery and that brown and red earth, the colors of Tanzania. It is in Usa River, very close to Arusha National Park.
And yes, we were beginners, but we didn’t stop until we found Joseph who made the windows and Innocence and his team, who put them. Then the mirrors and the handles with Senya as the head of the group. And we were with a notary who certified the project had been done.
It took a long time for this to be finished, about 6 months, but at the same time it was very satisfying. The end result: 30 windows, 10 doors, employment for 8 people, natural light in the classrooms, million of laughs and thanks from the children, their parents and their teachers and we feel our hearts full of joy.
And a solidarity concert and some meals no less supportive, and a class with its own name and soul and many, many collaborations from all of you. Only like this it was possible.
And this dream had only just begun …
“Look for windows and not mirrors to inspire you”
